Singapore International Awards 2021 for International Students

The Singapore International Pre-Graduate Award (SIPGA) supports short-term research attachments for top international students at A STAR, giving you the unique opportunity to experience the vibrant scientific environment in A STAR Research Institutes and Consortia, and work with distinguished and world-renowned researchers.

This award is eligible for students who are pursuing their Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees. If you’re considering Ph.D. studies in A*STAR, do apply for the Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) programme.

The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) is a collaboration between the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).

Ph.D. training will be carried out in English at your chosen lab at A*STAR Research Institutes, NTU, NUS or SUTD. Students will be supervised by distinguished and world-renowned researchers in these labs. Upon successful completion, students will be conferred a Ph.D. degree by either NTU, NUS or SUTD.

Financial Coverage and Benefits of BS & MS Students

  1. Monthly stipend of $1,500
  2. The research attachment period should be a minimum of 2 months to a maximum of 6 months.
  3. A simple report detailing the student’s experience and research project is required to be submitted to A*GA 3 weeks before completion of the attachment.

Financial Coverage and Benefits of Ph.D. Students

The award provides support for up to 4 years of Ph.D. studies including:

  1. Tuition fees
  2. Monthly stipend of S$2,000, which will be increased to S$2,500 after the passing of the Qualifying Examination
  3. One-time airfare grant of up to S$1,500
  4. One-time settling-in allowance of S$1,000

Eligibility of BS, MS Students of Singapore International Awards 2021

  • Open for application by international students in Biomedical Sciences and Physical Science and Engineering related disciplines who are undergraduate students in their third or fourth year, or Master students

Eligibility of P.h.D. Students of Singapore International Awards 2021

  1. Open for application to all international graduates with a passion for research and excellent academic results
  2. Good skills in written and spoken English
  3. Good reports from academic referees

For attachment opportunities at the Bioinformatics Institute (BII), Genome Institute of Singapore (GIS), and/or NanoBio Lab (NBL), interested students should email the following RI coordinators directly for placement.

How to Apply for Singapore International Graduate Awards 2021

1. Browse Ph.D. Research Projects

Go to Research Areas to browse the projects you are interested in.

2. Documents Required
Do prepare the following documents in advance before applying them.
Note: Do NOT mail any hard copy documents to SINGA Office. All necessary documents are to be submitted online.

a. Passport
b. A recent passport-sized photo (in .jpeg or .png format)

3.Transcripts & Reports
ALL transcripts need to be in English translation
Mandatory

Bachelor’s and/or Master’s academic transcripts.
Bachelor’s Degree certificate(s) / scroll(s) or a letter of certification from the university on your candidature if your degree certificate/scroll has not yet been conferred.
2 recommendation reports (to be completed and submitted online by the referees).

Optional

GRE / IELTS / TOEFL / SAT I & II / GATE results. However, do note that you may be requested by the university to submit satisfactory scores as part of the university admission requirement.

b. Please ensure that you apply for the correct scholarship – “Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA)” – in the application portal after logging in.

c. Please do NOT mail any hard copy documents to the SINGA Office.

d. Please submit your applications as early as possible. This will provide ample time for your referees to submit their online recommendation reports before the application deadline, as only applications with 2 recommendation reports will be processed.

e. Please check and ensure that all data you have entered in the online application form is correct and accurate before you submit the application. Amendments to the application will NOT be possible after it is submitted.
