Turkish Yunus Emre Institute Summer School 2020

Applications open for Thematic Summer Schools.

No IELTS required for the Turkish Summer School 2020 and no registration fee.

Applications for 2020 are open for Yunus Emre Institute’s thematic summer schools.

The Institute’s summer schools initially focused on Turkish teaching and promoting Turkish culture through immersion, but a thematic twist was added in 2018 as summer schools were structured around central themes. The Archaeology Summer School, the Science Summer School, the Turkish Literature Summer School, the Turkish Cuisine Summer School, and the Turkish Cinema Summer School will host participants in Turkey in 2020.

ARCHAEOLOGY SUMMER SCHOOL 2020 for International Students

Along with educational activities, Yunus Emre Institute organizes art and culture events and
supports scientific studies all around the globe through Yunus Emre Turkish Culture Centres and
offices at various universities worldwide.
In this scope, Yunus Emre Institute is organizing the Archaeology Summer School as part of its
thematic summer schools to present the world a deeper insight into Turkey’s cultural heritage. We
hereby invite you to join this program to be attended by university students interested in cultural
heritage and archaeology, where you will get the chance to gain astounding experience about
Turkey’s cultural heritage through academic seminars and visits to archaeological sites and
museums during the course of two weeks.

1. Theme and subject

  • Seminars and workshops: Seminars rich in content to be delivered by experts like
    academicians, archaeologists, museum directors, etc. about Anatolian civilizations, their
    archaeology, history and the analysis of the same from the viewpoint of architecture and
    art history, etc.
  • Film and documentary screenings: Screening of documentaries and films about
    archaeological sites and excavation areas
  • Field visits: Visits to the archaeological sites of Troy, İzmir Agora, Ephesus, Göbeklitepe,
    Çatalhöyük; Troy Museum, Anatolian Civilizations Museum, Zeugma, Şanlıurfa; Istanbul
    Archaeology Museum & Library
  • Historic and touristic sightseeing tours: Sightseeing tours to Çanakkale, Izmir, Şanlıurfa,
    Gaziantep, Ankara, Konya, Nevşehir, and Istanbul.

2. Date and Venue of the Program

The program will take place in Çanakkale, Izmir, Şanlıurfa, Gaziantep, Ankara, Çorum and
İstanbul between July 13th – 24th, 2020.

3. Target Group and Participation Conditions

Only one person per country will be admitted to the program. 25 people will be accepted in
total who will constitute a single class from among those meeting the requirements below.

  • Good command of English (at least B2)
  • Should be between 18-35 years of age
  • Should be open to intercultural dialogue
  • Should have a genuine interest in cultural heritage and archaeology
  • Should be studying/have studied social science such as archaeology, culture studies,
    history, cultural anthropology, folklore, art history, etc.
  • Should preferably a freshman or sophomore at the university level
  • Should have no health problems that could impede traveling

4. Program Language

The medium of instruction and communication in the programme will be English, due to international participation.

5. Accommodation

Single rooms at dormitories/guesthouses of universities or other public institutions.

6. Date and Method of Application

SCIENCE SUMMER SCHOOL 2020 for International Students

Along with educational activities, Yunus Emre Institute organizes art and culture events and
supports scientific studies all around the globe through Yunus Emre Turkish Culture Centres and
offices at various universities worldwide.
In this scope, Yunus Emre Institute is organizing the TABIP Science Summer School as part of
its thematic summer schools to present the world a deeper insight into Turkey’s academic potential.
Each year the sub-theme is focusing on a different topic. The theme of 2020 is Advanced Farming
Technologies. We hereby invite you to join this program to be attended by university students and
graduates interested in advanced farming technologies, where you will get the chance to gain
the astounding experience about Turkey’s academic and scientific potential through seminars, lectures
and visits special companies during the course of two weeks.

1. Theme and subject

  • Seminars and workshops: Seminars rich in content to be delivered by experts like
    academicians, CEO’s of the companies, etc. about Advanced Farming Technologies and
    the implementations in Turkey and all over the World. You will also have the chance not
    only to meet the Turkish academicians but also meet the well-known academicians of the
    World.
  • Company visits: Visits to the technology companies of Turkey
  • Historic and touristic sightseeing tours.

The program will take place in multiple cities between July 13th – 24th, 2020.

TURKISH CINEMA SUMMER SCHOOL 2020 for International Students

Along with educational activities, Yunus Emre Institute organizes art and culture events and
supports scientific studies all around the globe through Yunus Emre Turkish Culture Centres and
liaison offices at various universities worldwide.
In this scope, our Institute is organizing the Turkish Cinema Summer School to share Turkey’s
cinematic history with the world and present a deeper insight into Turkish cinema.

1. Theme and subjects

  • Seminars: Seminars rich in content to be delivered by academicians, directors,
    actors/actresses, critics, etc. about the history, films, actors/actresses of Turkish cinema
  • Film screenings and interviews: Screening of masterpieces of Turkish cinema and
    discussions on these masterpieces with academicians from universities, directors,
    actors/actresses, critics, etc.
  • Field visits: Famous and significant movie locations, film sets, film production companies,
    series/film shooting areas, movie theatres, cinema departments, cinema museums, etc.
  • Presentations by participants: Presentations which the participants will prepare about
    Turkish cinema in the course of the program
  • Optional A1 Turkish course
  • City sightseeing tour: Historic and touristic city sightseeing tours in Istanbul

TURKISH GASTRONOMY SUMMER SCHOOL 2020

Along with educational activities, Yunus Emre Institute organizes art and culture events and
supports scientific studies all around the globe through Yunus Emre Turkish Culture Centres and
liaison offices at various universities worldwide. It also organizes a number of events to promote
Turkish cuisine every year around the world.
In this context, our Institute has unveiled the Turkish Gastronomy Summer School program to
promote and showcase Turkish cuisine more closely.

1. Theme and subject matter
The Turkish culinary culture will be taught at the Summer School program.

  • Seminars: Seminars rich in content will be given by academics and master chefs on the
    history of Turkish cuisine, Turkish culinary culture, and traditions, products that are unique
    to Turkish cuisine, the cooking techniques, the use of species, etc.
  • Workshops: Workshops will be held to give a hand-on experience on culinary cultures
    of diverse regions in Turkey.
  • Tasting Events: During the program, there will be opportunities to taste many Turkish
    delicacies.
  • Field visits: There will be visits to the cities which are included in the gastronomy category
    of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network, with opportunities to learn about traditional marks
    and see historical sites such as the Spice Bazaar.
  • City sightseeing tour: Historic and touristic cities such as Istanbul, Bursa, Afyonkarahisar,
    Ankara, Şanlıurfa, and Gaziantep.

The program will take place between July 13th – 24th, 2020.

3. Target Group and Participation Requirements
The program will accept participants, one from each country, with the following qualifications. 25
people will be accepted to form a class.

  • Good command of English (at least B2)
  • Should be between 18-35 years of age
  • Should be open to intercultural dialogue.
  • Should be studying/ trained in culinary arts and gastronomy or employed in gastronomy
    sectors.
  • Should preferably be a student, young chef or culinary researcher, experienced in the world
    cuisines and keen on working on Turkish cuisine.
  • Should have a genuine interest in foreign cultures
  • Should have no health problem that could impede traveling, especially allergies to
    foodstuff or spices.

4. Language of the Program
The medium of instruction and communication in the program will be English, due to
international participation.

5. Accommodation

TURKISH LITERATURE SUMMER SCHOOL 2020

In this scope, Yunus Emre Institute is organizing the Turkish Literature Summer School in Istanbul
to present a deeper insight into Turkish literature. We hereby invite you to Istanbul this summer to
join this wonderful program whereby you will get the chance to meet prominent authors and poets
of Turkish literature, acquaint yourself with the works of diverse authors of various literary genres
through seminars, discussions and various workshops, and experience the real settings of Turkish
literature on-site.

1. Theme and subject

  • Seminars and workshops: Seminars rich in content to be delivered by experts about Turkish
    literature, its genres, and history;
  • Field visits: Seminars at Gülhane Park Alay Pavilion, visits to the Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar
    The research center, Sait Faik Abasıyanık Museum House, the Museum of Innocence, other
    literature museums, memorial houses of poets and authors, publishing houses, libraries,
    etc.

    the translation into or from Turkish
